Lonnie Chisenhall

Lonnie Chisenhall born October 4th 1988 in Morehead City, North Carolina. He was the Indians 2008 1st round draft choice 29th overall out of Pitt. CC in North Carolina. He is a SS/3B in the Indians system who spent this past season in the Indians Rookie League Mahoning Valley.

He is a decent prospect who was probably taken too early by the Indians. He is a below average runner, an average to below average fielder, and right now below average power. There is a little upside to him however. He does seem to have some natural ability at the plate. He could develop a little power as he gets older. Good baseball instincts as well, when he steals a base its because of his ability to read a pitcher.

There is a giant asterisk next to his name as he was kicked off his college team (University of South Carolina) when he was arrested for grand larceny and burglary. Hopefully he has left those issues in the past and put together a good career.

In his first taste of pro ball Lonnie did pretty well hitting .290/.355/.438 in 276 at bats. He also hit 5 homeruns, 45 RBI, 7 SB, and 20 Doubles. He should start next season in Lake County's lineup and be a vital part of their offense.

Please Note: Its not that I don't like Lonnie and wish him not to do well its just we took him way too early and we only had one first round pick and there was much better avilable then Lonnie Chisenhall.

Beau Mills

Beau Mills, son of Boston Red Sox bench coach Brad Mills was born on August 15th 1986 in Visalia, California. He is a left handed 3B/1B for the Cleveland Indians who spent the last season playing for the Kinston Indians.

The Indians 2007 1st round draft choice 13th overall is one to get excited for. He has plus power and the potential to hit for a good average at the next level as well. He is pretty patient so he draws his fair share of walks as well as strikeouts. He is a leader by example and because of his background in baseball he has good baseball instincts.

He had a great full season at Kinston this past season. He hit .293/.373/.506 with 21 homeruns, 90 RBI, 34 doubles, 54 BB and 105 K's in 482.

He should start next season at Akron in the middle of their order. If he takes the next step and plays at Akron like he did at Kinston he will become a big time prospect in all of baseball. He was also the 2008 recipient of the Carolina League MVP.

Prospect Profile: Hector Rondon

Hector Luis Rondon, born on February 26 1988 in Guatire, Venezuela. He is a right handed pitching prospect in the Indians organization. This past season he pitched for the Indians high A Kinston team and participated in the Futures Game.

Hector possesses one of the better fastballs in the Indians orgainization reaching the mid 90's. It compliments his potential great curveball and decent changeup. The big thing Rondon has going for him is his great control. In 2007 he pitched 136.0 innings he only walked 27 and in 2008 he pitched 145.0 innings and only walked 42.

He will most likely be anchoring the Aeros rotation next season at a very young age of 21 after a season at Kinston where he went 11-5 with 3.60 ERA and 145 strikeouts.

Being only 20 years old and 6'3" 175 pounds he still has pleanty of time to add more muscle to his frame and possibly add a few more MPH to his fastball. So a comparison right now wouldn't fair to him b/c we aren't completely sure what kind of pitcher he will become.

Prospect Profile: Cord Phelps

Cord Phelps is a 2B was drafted by the Indians in the third round (107th overall) out of Stanford University. At Stanford he was his teams lead-off hitter. He drew an impressive 40 walks and hit 13 homeruns his Junior season. In an elimination game against the top ranked Miami, Cord had a great game, being only a homerun away from the cycle.

For a second basemen, he is pretty big. At 6'2" 200lbs he is not your prototypical middle infielder but the Indians believe he is good enough to stay there defensively. He has the potential to bring good power from a middle infield spot. He has a patient approach at the plate by evidence of his 40 walks this past season for Stanford.

He was able to get in 35 games at Mahoning Valley and hit .312/.376/454. As well as hitting 10 doubles, 2 homeruns, 21 RBI, 15 walks, 22 strikeouts in 141 at bats. He and fellow 2008 draftees Jeremie Tice, Tim Fedroff, and Lonnie Chisenhall should give Lake County a pretty good offense next season.

I could see Cord Phelps putting up numbers similar to Kelly Johnson of the Braves. However we never know exactly how much power he will develop. No current 2B in baseball right now is as big as Cord.

Prospect Profile: Judson Morris

Left hander Judson Ryan Morris born January 10th 1988, was taken in the fourth round out of high school in 2006.

At 6' 3" 175lbs Judson has a good frame for a starting pitcher. His fastball sits at around 88-92 MPH. He projects to possibly add a little velocity to that as he matures. He also has a pretty good changeup and curveball too go along with his fastball.

Like any young pitchers he struggled a bit with his control as evidence by his 31 walks in 64.2 innings last year but its nothing to be worried about. The Indians do as good of job as any in baseball when it comes to harnessing a young pitchers control and how to go after a hitter.

Ryan came out in 2008 and had a great year at low A Lake County going 9-7 with a 3.76 with 101 K's, 57 walks, only 6 homeruns in 134.0 innings of work. For being just 20 years old that entire season those are very impressive numbers. He should start the 2009 season at high A Kinston.

I think a fair comparison for Morris might be Cliff Lee. They have similar stuff, are similar in size, and are both lefties with above average stuff.

Clippers New AAA Team

I know this is a bit of old news but I wanted to put something in this section b/c the off-season will be very slow for minor league news. Anyway the Indians and Clippers announced on September 18th 2008 that the Clippers will be the new AAA team of the Cleveland Indians. The Indians will be able to enjoy the benefit of a brand new stadium Huntington Park in Columbus.

The Indians old AAA team Buffalo Bison will be the new AAA team of the New York Mets. The Indians who have been with the Buffalo Bison since 1995 said good bye to them this season.
